Our History: American Manufacturing Excellence Since 1972

Check-Mate has built its reputation as one of America’s most capable precision manufacturers by continuously evolving with the industries it serves. Founded in 1972 in West Babylon on Long Island, the Check-Mate began as a highly specialized tool & die operation and steadily expanded into a full-service manufacturing partner supporting aerospace, defense, medical, automotive, firearms, and industrial OEM markets.

What started as a small operation has grown into a vertically integrated manufacturing organization with national reach, multiple facilities, and a longstanding role as a U.S. government contractor. Over more than five decades, Check-Mate has earned recognition for solving difficult manufacturing challenges through engineering-first thinking, in-house production control, and a willingness to invest heavily in tooling, automation, and process innovation.

From Tool & Die Roots to Full-Service Manufacturing

Check-Mate’s foundation was built in precision tooling. The company originally focused on designing and producing high-precision tooling and dies used in demanding industrial applications. As customer needs expanded, Check-Mate evolved beyond tooling into a complete manufacturing operation capable of taking projects from concept through final assembly and validation.

Today, Check-Mate provides:

  • Precision tool & die engineering
  • Progressive and non-progressive stamping
  • CNC machining
  • Wire EDM
  • Prototype development
  • Mechanical assembly
  • Product testing and validation
  • High-volume production programs

This complete in-house capability gives customers tighter quality control, shorter development cycles, and superior consistency from prototype through full production.

Long Island Headquarters: Built on Manufacturing Expertise

The original headquarters in West Babylon remains a core part of Check-Mate’s manufacturing network. The facility at 370 Wyandanch Avenue became known for its extensive tooling capabilities and one of the region’s larger tool rooms. The Long Island operation established Check-Mate’s reputation for precision stamping, tooling design, and complex assemblies, helping the company become a trusted supplier across commercial and government sectors.

The New York location also serves as the company’s long-established federal contractor registration address under CAGE Code 1M291, reinforcing its role in defense-related procurement and government manufacturing programs.

Expansion to Georgia: Scaling for the Future

In 2018, Check-Mate announced a major strategic expansion into Thomasville, opening a second large-scale production facility under Check-Mate Manufacturing LLC. The move included a reported $16 million investment and plans to create 230 jobs, significantly expanding capacity for stamping, machining, and assembly operations.

Check-Mate Manufacturing LLC serves as a major production hub supporting growing demand across defense, medical, aerospace, and commercial manufacturing. The facility strengthened supply continuity by creating redundant manufacturing capability between New York and Georgia. Company statements noted this dual-facility strategy helps maintain uninterrupted customer support even during regional disruptions.

A Legacy in Government Contract Manufacturing

Check-Mate’s government manufacturing history spans decades. The company secured its first military contract in 1974 and has since fulfilled hundreds of defense contracts. Check-Mate has completed more than 400 military contracts and produced more than 100 million magazines for OEM and military programs.

Under CAGE Code 1M291, Check-Mate supplied DOD components including:

  • Aircraft structural components
  • Fire-control hardware
  • Weapons support components
  • Stamped mechanical assemblies
  • Precision springs and metal hardware
  • Military magazines and feeding systems

This long history supporting U.S. procurement has helped position Check-Mate as a trusted supplier for defense-related applications requiring traceability, repeatability, and strict specification compliance.

Continuous Investment in Capability

A defining part of Check-Mate’s history is its continued investment in modern manufacturing. From advanced CNC machining centers to EDM, automation, and tooling upgrades, the company consistently expands its technical capabilities to stay ahead of customer requirements.

Check-Mate continued investment in machining centers at both New York and Georgia facilities, reflecting a strategy centered on production scalability and long-term customer support.

Built to Support Critical Industries

Today, Check-Mate supports customers across:

  • Aerospace manufacturing
  • Defense and military contracting
  • Firearms OEM production
  • Medical and surgical devices
  • Automotive systems
  • Electronics and industrial applications
  • Consumer and specialty products

What makes Check-Mate unique is not simply the industries served, but the company’s ability to engineer complex metal components and assemblies entirely in-house while maintaining strict quality control at every stage.

The Check-Mate Difference

For more than 50 years, Check-Mate Industries has remained focused on one principle: precision without compromise. From its origins as a Long Island tool & die shop to its expansion into one of the Southeast’s significant manufacturing operations, Check-Mate continues to grow by combining old-world craftsmanship with advanced manufacturing technology.

With facilities in both Long Island and Thomasville, a history in government contracting, and deep expertise across highly regulated industries, Check-Mate stands as a proven American manufacturing partner trusted to deliver when precision matters most.
